“Things aren’t good in PSP-land says an article titled “R.I.P. PSP” over at the Gameworld Network. The five-page piece takes a fairly balanced and detailed look at why it’s game over for the PlayStation Portable. Here are the main points:

  • It’s expensive to develop games for the PSP.
  • Load time is slow.
  • No good games.
  • UMD is dead as disco.
  • It’s pricey.

The article also points out good points like that the portable is a fab homebrew device. Moreover, there are rumors that Sony could be offering a price drop and over 7,000 PS1 games to download. And besides, if you are going to game in a bubble bath, you’re better off with a PSP.

I do believe this is true… Also, the PSP itself in comparison with the DS is very expensive. I think Sony should start looking at the prices, cuz Nintendo is coming back very strong with the Wii. Hopefully developers will see the potential of the Wii. Not everything in video games is how pretty graphics look like… I also think interactivity is very important.

    PSP Price Drop?…

Will Sony PSP prices drop to compete against the Nintendo Wii?……

I don’t really think so. For example, Sony lately has been in their “the more money you pay, the better the game” trend. I don’t really think thats necessary. I believe fun is more important than graphics. A PS3 will actually cost you $600 and the Wii will be $250. Wii ofers a more interactive gameplay than the motion sensor controller from the PS3. I dunno, that’s just my opinion.

How much do you about PSP`s Bastardiser? …..Obviously not much. I purchashed a secondhand PSP for about 60% new price and I believe its the best value for money I`ve gotten from a gaming console.(and I`ve got quite a pile of old consoles kicking around) The games ARE ‘the cutting edge’ as far as portable gaming goes, PSP makes the rest look like calculators. I take my hat off to Sony for the unbelievable versatility they have designed into their PSP. I posted this comment with my PSP as I surf the net!

Well Slutre, That’s just my opinion. I don’t think everything is about graphics. Have you played brain age for psp? BTW, how much time did it take you to type down that whole message… 5 hours? And I guess when you finished posting this message your battery died.

And it’s Bastardizer, with a Z, not an S, Oh I guess you make a typo with the psp cursor, and you were so lazy to go back and erase it.

Personally I’ve always thought that the PSP was like a Game Gear but with UMD’s instead of cartridges. It’s huge for a portable, its battery life is apparently trash and there’s no backwards compatibility… you know how that always fares with consoles; just ask Nintendo. I think that just because of the awesome homebrew sub-caste the PSP has built for itself it will walk around enjoying the zombie life just like that other lovable console I used to loathe but now I believe it’s rather cool: the Sega Dreamcast.

Do you remember that the Game Gear used like 23 AA batteries and it dies out after an hour of gameplay? Sum-ma-ma-bitch.

you might say your PSP gave you the best bang for your buck, truth be told sales charts prove the DS is the winner in this little debacle. Truth be told I like the features on the PSP but If I wanted to surf the net I would get a palm pilot, The PSP is supposed to be about gaming and there are only a handful of DECENT games out there for the PSP… This is why I say the DS is the winner, because its fun to play and there are some great games out there, ultimately it all boils down to games and the PS3 once again only seems to have a handful of games im looking forward to, and a weak launch lineup.
Do you honestly think that given the choice between a $600.00 console where the price will skyrocket the first few months given to the already planned shortages (500,000 units on launch?!) and a $250.00 console which not only looks more fun but has one of the best launch lineups I have ever seen people will go for the more expensive one? Id rather get a 360 and spend the rest on a Wii. Sony has made huge fopas over the past few years because they have the wrong notion of “being on top” and being indestructible, Nintendo had the same position and they fell off their high chair, but the difference is that they never got cocky. I for one am getting a ps3 eventually probably when the price goes down or I see some really worthwhile games other than MGS4 and Final Fantasy…

Took about 2 minutes to type in that message bro. I hear there is a keyboard available too… Battery life is 6 hours, charges in about 1. Hey sorry about the typo, lazy is my middle name. :^D
